El

Spanish Mastiff · Female · Adult · 6 years

GILDA was born, approximately, in 2020. She was rescued from the street thanks to a boy who gave us El a heads-up. Today, she is safe and sound in our animal shelter and... it turns out she wasn't alone! We don't know her previous story as she was found abandoned. An animal is a responsibility that many people still don't understand, but we are going to try to change the lives of the animals and continue offering new opportunities to those we can take in. GILDA is a mixed breed of large Mastiff. She is very calm, good, and affectionate. As a newcomer, she is still adapting to the animal shelter. As we mentioned at the beginning, this big gal had an unexpected surprise for us and in late February of this year, we found five adorable babies in her kennel 💕 Unfortunately, only four of them survived. Four beautiful female puppies who will be put up for adoption once they are weaned. We present to you: Rumba, Feria, Soleá, and Bulería 😍💜 GILDA comes with a microchip, passport, up-to-date vaccinations, and tests for Erlichia, Anaplasma, Heartworm, and Leishmania. Additionally, she is spayed.

About El

What life with El looks like

El is a large adult spanish mastiff dog waiting at El Refugio Escuela Marlene in Seville.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting El, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about El?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. El Refugio Escuela Marlene handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw El on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt El if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — El Refugio Escuela Marlene will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is El already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if El isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with El Refugio Escuela Marlene early rather than rehoming privately; they know El and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (ES). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
