Gimmy

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

During our project tour in late August/early September 2026, we also visited the LIDA refuge, where we were already expected. Because there were some new arrivals that we wanted to meet. Among the new arrivals was this cute little dog boy. Gimmy, as he was called, had landed at the refuge as a baby just a few weeks old. If the tourists who found him in the countryside had not brought him to the refuge, the little one would certainly have died. He could not have survived alone in the countryside. Once again, the question arose for us, what kind of people are these who throw away a helpless puppy and deliver it to certain death? This behavior is simply disgusting. At the refuge, of course, everything was done to save the little creature. A volunteer caregiver looked after the baby around the clock, and fortunately, the little one developed well. And so we were now able to get to know a handsome and very friendly little dog boy.Gimmy was very sweet during the photo shoot and followed our actions very attentively. And we naturally hope for the dear little fellow that the refuge will only be a short stopover in his life. Because - despite all the good care - personal attention and individual support are missing. There are simply too many animals to care for daily, so there is no time for more than a brief stroking in between.A family environment is therefore immensely important for further good development. That is why we wish for Gimmy that he may soon embark on his journey to Germany.Would you like to accompany the lovable little dog as a foster home on his way to a good future? Or does Gimmy warm your heart and you would like to take him into your family and give him the dream home forever? If you are currently looking for a new furry family member and you are aware that an adoption not only means a lot of joy, but also work and great responsibility, then we look forward to your message. We mediate nationwide. About Gimmy

What life with Gimmy looks like

Gimmy is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at ProTier e.V. in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Gimmy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Gimmy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ProTier e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Gimmy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Gimmy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ProTier e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Gimmy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Gimmy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ProTier e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Gimmy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
