Gin &#8211

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Gin is searching for a new home because his people can no longer meet his needs for private reasons. He is very people-oriented and likes to be close to his people. He is open, interested, eager to learn, and playful. Gin gets along well with fellow animals but sometimes can't fully channel his excitement and can become a bit rambunctious. With smaller animals, he can sometimes be a bit rough. He likes to chase cats now and then. However, he can understand basic commands such as "sit," "stay," "heel," and "wait," and these help manage his interactions with other four-legged friends very well. He walks nicely on a leash, can sit on command, or finds his dog bed. He learned the commands in French, so a recall training would need to be re-established. External stimuli don't bother him much, except for sudden and very loud noises like fireworks, which can unsettle him. Gin is not yet socialized to urban situations but has handled city visits well so far. He enjoys taking the bus and loves car rides, especially with open windows. He is a good apartment dog because he rarely barks indoors and is very quiet in his own space. Gin needs dog-experienced people with consistent, but loving leadership who will accept him as a family member and help him grow without overwhelming him. Since he is quiet indoors, he would also be suitable for people who work from home. Gin would also be a good second dog for a confident, single dog. Gin is vaccinated, microchipped, and ready for rehoming. About Gin &#8211

What life with Gin &#8211 looks like

Gin &#8211 is a small adult mixed breed cat waiting at Tierschutzbund Basel Regional.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Gin &#8211, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Gin &#8211?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzbund Basel Regional handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Gin &#8211 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Gin &#8211 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzbund Basel Regional will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Gin &#8211 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Gin &#8211 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzbund Basel Regional early rather than rehoming privately; they know Gin &#8211 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
