Gitana

Belgian Malinois · Female · Young · 1 year

Gitana - young female Malinois mix seeking active people Gitana currently lives in our Spanish partner animal shelter. The pretty girl is extremely friendly, people-oriented and affectionate there. She loves the contact with her caregivers and enjoys every minute she spends with the volunteer helpers. Gitana is particularly enthusiastic when practicing together - a few treats motivate her to learn new tasks with great joy. Gitana also gets along well with other dogs. She shares her kennel without problems with a Malinois male and shows herself socially compatible. However, cats should not live in the new home. As a Malinois mix, Gitana probably brings many breed-typical characteristics. Malinois are intelligent, hardworking and very people-oriented dogs that want to be physically and mentally exercised. They want people who enjoy working with their dog, creating clear structures and seeing them as an integral part of their daily lives. It is especially important for Malinois (and their mixes) that they come to people who are familiar with the breed or willing to deal intensively with their needs. We do not know how much Gitana has been able to learn so far. Therefore, her future humans should be prepared to patiently teach her the dog alphabet and gradually introduce her to her new life. For Gitana, we wish an active, responsible home that can finally give her the attention, occupation and security she misses so much in the animal shelter. A young girl like her should not have to spend her best years behind bars - but discover the world together with her humans. If you are aware of what comes with adopting a rescue dog and have fallen for the rescue nose, please contact the responsible SALVA Hundehilfe mediator. We would also be very grateful if you could provide a foster home! Here's Gitana's video

Malinois Mischling Gitana – junge Hündin sucht aktive Menschen Gitana lebt aktuell in unserem spanischen Partnertierheim.

About Gitana

What life with Gitana looks like

Gitana is a young adult belgian malinois dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Gitana, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Gitana?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Gitana on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Gitana if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Gitana already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Gitana isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Gitana and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
