Adopt Gitana

Brittany Spaniel · Female · Adult · 4 years

Brittany Spaniel mixed breed Gitana – a truly charming little female dog Gitana is an exceptionally friendly and social canine – a dream on four paws. Besides being a Brittany, we suspect there might also be a Münsterländer in her ancestry, though that is not certain, it remains one of Gitanas’ secrets. Like many dogs, she lost her home and is now waiting for her second chance at our partner shelter. This time, it should be a home for life, reliable, safe, and loving. Gitana brings the best character traits for a fresh start in Germany. She is also open to new things in terms of age, though not in her stormy and passionate youth. The delicate female dog does not feel comfortable in the animal shelter; she is completely out of place there in her human-like nature. Also, Gitana does not want to spend her life on concrete and behind bars; she wants to have grass and earth under her paws, for the wind to blow through her soft fur, and to run in nature and experience exciting things. We hope very much that this wonderful female dog will soon be seen by people who will say yes to her and give her a new home. A foster home as a transitional kennel and springboard into dog happiness would also be welcome. Gitana is ready to travel and would very much like to leave the animal shelter soon. Like all our dogs, she brings her unknown past experiences with her and wishes for patient and loving support and to be gradually integrated into her new life. Gitana wants to do everything right and please, but of course, she needs guidance to understand and learn what she may not yet know.

About Gitana

What life with Gitana looks like

Gitana is a adult brittany spaniel dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Gitana, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Gitana?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Gitana on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Gitana if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Gitana already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Gitana isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Gitana and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
