Adopt Gizmo

Chihuahua · Male · Senior · 9 years

Gizmo is a handsome gentleman looking for his retirement home! Gizmo is a worried boy, so would prefer a quieter home with calmer owners that can give him his time and space to come around. Once he has made friends, he's a loving and affectionate boy. Gizmo may need some support on his house-training but he can be left for 4-6 hours with a break once settled. He travels well in the car, so would make a fun adventure buddy but would definitely love a sofa to curl up on and snooze his evenings away! Meet Gizmo! Gizmo is a beautiful 9-year old Chihuahua looking for his forever home. Gizmo is looking to be the only dog in the home, and for all children to be 16yrs+ as he can be quite a worried lad. Gizmo is a loving dog who can be worried by more formal handling, and doesn't enjoy being picked up, however, he does love a cuddle once he has gotten to know you! Gizmo is happy to let you know when he wants fuss, but doesn't want to be overhandled so he would suit understanding adopters that are willing to give him his space when he asks for it. Gizmo is a good boy, but can boof at dogs out and about if he's feeling crazy, but is easy to come away. He is a sweet angel who just needs a bit of patience and time to come around! Gizmo is a bit fan of chicken, so this is a great aid in making friends and any training he may need. Gizmo isn't looking to go for hikes, but he enjoys getting out and about for his sniffy walks where he can explore the environment around him. He walks well on the lead, loves his food and will be a wonderful companion.

About Gizmo

What life with Gizmo looks like

Gizmo is a senior chihuahua dog waiting at Dogs Trust Cardiff in Cardiff.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Gizmo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Gizmo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Cardiff handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Gizmo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Gizmo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Cardiff will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Gizmo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Gizmo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Cardiff early rather than rehoming privately; they know Gizmo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
