Gonzo

adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Gonzo has found a grace place! His story: The old doggie Gonzo was brought to the shelter by the dog catchers. He is no longer good on his feet and his age is clearly visible. We don't know what his past was like or what Gonzo went through, but we know for sure that he shouldn't have to stay in the shelter but can spend the rest of his life in a warm home. Gonzo is described as a very loving, friendly dog. Due to his age, the old doggie is more laid-back and can avoid stress and fights. Cuddles and afternoon naps suit him much better. His exact age is unfortunately not known, but he is estimated to be at least 12 years old. With a height of about 61 cm, he has a rather large size. Whether he already knows life in a family is unfortunately not known. At the beginning, he will certainly need some time, love, and patience to fully settle into his new family. But for the senior, everything is better than the cold, lonely life in the kennel that lies ahead. Therefore, we wish for Gonzo loving people who can provide everything a senior dog needs. A warm, comfortable dog bed, good food, and of course, a lot of love. Even a foster home would greatly help Gonzo. Gonzo travels neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas. He brings his EU pet passport and can be adopted after a positive match. Who still has a dog bed free for the poor Gonzo? Many thanks to Carolin! You gave Gonzo his name. A big thank you also goes to Sabine and Thomas L. who have taken on a monthly sponsorship for Gonzo. Status: 11.01.

Vielen Dank an Carolin! Stand: 11.01.2025

About Gonzo

What life with Gonzo looks like

Gonzo is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Gonzo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Gonzo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Gonzo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Gonzo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Gonzo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Gonzo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Gonzo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
