Gordon – Available – North East

English Bulldog · Male · Adult · 5 years

Dogs name: Gordon Age: 5 years old Current location: South Shields, Tyne & Wear. I CAN LIVE WITH Children: Dog savvy children 10+ Cats: No. Dogs: No. A BIT ABOUT ME Personality: Gordon is a sweet, playful boy with a wonderfully quirky personality. Gordon adores his humans, he is an affectionate and sweet natured boy, who will seek you for attention and affection, his absolute favourite form of affection is sitting at your side having his paw held. As he continues to recover, his joyful zoomies and love of toys are beginning to shine through. He is anxious and still learning about the world but will thrive in a patient, loving home that can help him grow in confidence. In return, Gordon will bring fun, laughter, and an abundance of affection to the family lucky enough to welcome him. Behaviour: Gordon is a loving, enthusiastic boy who can become very excited when interacting with people, and in those moments he may occasionally overstep boundaries. This can look like trying to climb onto laps, sitting on people, or on rare occasions attempting to hump. He is still learning appropriate ways to express his affection, and he responds well to calm redirection and clear, consistent guidance. His manners are a work in progress, especially around food and attention. Gordon may jump up when people are eating or wander around seeking opportunities to access food, and he can become a little over‑keen when receiving affection. These behaviours are rooted in excitement rather than challenge, and with patient reinforcement he is already showing improvement. Gordon loves his toys and will happily take them away to play independently, though he hasn’t quite learned that he can play with you yet. Rough play is not advised, as it can quickly over‑excite him and lead to humping, so gentle, structured interaction suits him best. On the lead and in new environments, Gordon can become anxious. He expresses this by chewing his lead, especially when he feels unsure or overwhelmed. With reassurance, routine, and gradual exposure, he will continue to build confidence and feel more secure. Gordon is a bright, affectionate boy who simply needs a patient, understanding family to help him navigate the world. With the right support, he will blossom bringing warmth, fun, and plenty of cheeky charm to his forever home. Needs: Gordon needs a calm, nurturing home where life moves at a slower pace and someone is around for most of the day. His early life was sheltered, and this has left him with anxieties that his forever family must be willing to work through with patience and kindness. He needs confident, consistent guidance to help him understand boundaries and continue building his confidence. A secure garden is a must, giving him a safe space to relax and explore. Gordon is suited to families with children 10+ who understand how to interact respectfully with dogs, and he will need to be the only dog in the home. Walk/exercise: Gordon is gradually learning to enjoy short, gentle walks as he continues to heal from his BOAS surgery. He is an anxious boy outdoors and may chew his lead when he feels unsure or overwhelmed. He is also very wary of other dogs and prefers to be left to his own space, so calm, low‑pressure environments suit him best. Gordon will not be a dog who enjoys long or demanding walks. Instead, he needs a steady, predictable walking routine built around short outings that help him feel secure and supported. With patience, reassurance, and a quiet pace, he will continue to build confidence and find comfort in these moments. Toilet trained: Yes, Gordon is a very good boy. He may have accidents initially but will be good as gold as soon as he understands where he needs to go and any new routine. Travel: Gordon is a very anxious traveller, he will chew any lead. He settles best with someone sat with him on the back seat to give him gentle reassurance. Because of this we will accept applications of up to 3 hours from his current location. We recommend using a seatbelt restraint or travel crate whenever transporting dogs. **TRANSPORTING DURING WARMER WEATHER IT IS IMPORTANT TO KEEP THE CAR AS COOL AS POSSIBLE** Things to be aware of: Gordon has food allergies, he will need to remain on his current diet of Purina Hypoallergenic. Sometimes Gordon can be excited to play but don’t realise his size, any young children in the home must be supervised, as they have the potential to jump and knock children over. Children must understand that bulldogs need time to settle in and have space to rest peacefully and uninterrupted. Additional information from Gordon’s foster family: Gordon is a sweet, affectionate boy with a big personality and plenty of cheeky quirks! He loves cuddles, having his paw held and being close to his people. He is still learning about the world and needs a patient, loving home to help him grow in confidence. In return, he’ll bring plenty of fun, laughter and love to his forever family. Gordon’s adoption donation fee is £400 and will need to be paid in full prior to him going home which will also be subject to a home check. **Every dog rehomed by GBSR receives Rescue Back-up for their whole Life. Please welcome the newest boy into our GBSR family, Gordon. Gordon came to us from the pound after his owner surrendered him because he was moving abroad and his current partner was unable to keep him. Thankfully, our wonderful volunteers immediately jumped into action to get Gordon somewhere safe. A huge thank you to Sara, who collected him from the pound and transported him to his foster mum, Hayley, in the North East. Despite being understandably stressed during his journey, Gordon has settled beautifully into his foster home and is already beginning to feel safe. It is clear that Gordon isn’t used to being walked—he pulls constantly on the lead and will need some gentle guidance. However, we are confident that with Hayley’s love, patience and kindness, he will soon learn to enjoy his walks and understand that he will always return to a safe and loving home. Gordon has only just arrived in our care and is currently completing his foster assessment. His applications are not open, so please do not apply for him at this stage. We will share an update if and when he becomes available for adoption. Welcome to GBSR, gorgeous Gordon. Your new journey starts here—you are safe with us now. For now, please join us in welcoming this handsome boy to the Geordie Bullies family and wishing him the very best as he begins this new chapter. About Gordon – Available – North East

What life with Gordon – Available – North East looks like

Gordon – Available – North East is an extra-large adult english bulldog dog waiting at Geordie Bullies Springboard Rescue in United Kingdom.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Gordon – Available – North East, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Gordon – Available – North East?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Geordie Bullies Springboard Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Gordon – Available – North East on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Gordon – Available – North East if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Geordie Bullies Springboard Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Gordon – Available – North East already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Gordon – Available – North East isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Geordie Bullies Springboard Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Gordon – Available – North East and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
