Grafi

Male · Adult · 6 years

Grafi is an extraordinary dog. Smart, independent, cheerful and distinctive. He is not a dog that is easy to control, but if you understand dogs, want to spend a lot of time walking with a dog, and you are not looking for a cuddly dog, but a partner for a shared life, then Grafi will be an excellent choice. Grafi communicates very well with other dogs, is gentle, does not get into conflicts, and shows other dogs that he is not a threat to them. It's beautiful to watch this big teddy bear work on reducing the tension in another dog. He is very sociable and likes to spend time with other dogs. In the animal shelter, he lacks loose contacts with members of his species, although as his volunteer, we try to provide him with as many as possible, but it is often not enough time or people to allow him to enjoy contact with dogs. Grafi has the genes of a guard dog and approaches strangers with caution. When he arrived at the animal shelter, he did not like contact with people, but quickly became convinced of the first people and gradually met other volunteers and caretakers. Grafi is an independent and self-confident dog, has his own opinion and can show it, but when he meets someone who understands and accepts him, he is willing to cooperate with humans. His trusted volunteers allow him to be gently petted and to have simple grooming procedures. But we won't deceive ourselves, you have to work for this trust. Grafi can walk on a leash, with people he knows, he does not pull and willingly reacts to commands, but he dreams of a home where he can have the opportunity for free exploration on long walks without a leash. He is curious and cheerful. He will not miss any puddle, jump into a pile of leaves and sniff out interesting smells in the bush. Grafi loves walks! Unfortunately, in the animal shelter, we do not have the possibility to satisfy his needs and Grafi sometimes rebels against returning to the crate, but we fully understand him, because how can such a dog not get bored being locked in a cage for 23 hours a day. Such an energetic dog has a hard time in the animal shelter: too few walks, contact with people and dogs, opportunities to gain new skills and take on new challenges... And Grafi is very intelligent, he has the potential to be a fantastic dog companion. But he needs a conscious guide who will ensure him the opportunity for growth and a good dog life. Our Grafi is not a dog for everyone, but if you want a dog from blood and bone, you don't care about training or subordinating the dog, you are a person who respects canine autonomy and independence, but can also be firm and assertive and likes to traverse wilderness, then Grafi will be the perfect companion for you. Grafi would gladly live in a house with a garden outside the city, but if you are ready to meet his needs by living in the city, we suspect that it may work. He would also not mind dog companionship. Due to his size and character, he should not live in a house with children, we do not know his attitude towards other animals. Come for a walk with Grafim, this dog has already been locked in the cage for too long and is ready to find his place on earth! Due to his more demanding character, Grafi will need a greater number of introductory walks than specified in the adoption procedure, as well as a home visit.

Grafi to pies niezwykły. Mądry, niezależny, wesoły i charakterny. About Grafi

What life with Grafi looks like

Grafi is a large adult dog waiting at Schronisko Na Paluchu in Warsaw.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Requires extensive socialization walks and experienced handler due to independent nature and guardian instincts

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Grafi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Grafi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Na Paluchu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Grafi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Grafi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Na Paluchu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Grafi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Grafi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Na Paluchu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Grafi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
