Adopt Greta

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 2 years

animal rescuer: Virginia Georgieva born around: September 2023 Gender: female Location: Lower Saxony / Salzgitter spayed: yes FIV-Test: negative FeLV-Test: negative Disabilities: no compatible with: Children: no Cats: yes Dogs: unknown Requirements: NO single housing, suitable for apartment living, NO free roaming Balcony or terrace desirable (if available, must be secured) Greta once had a family – people she trusted. In the summer of 2025, her owners went to an area outside the city, and Greta was allowed to go with them. To her, everything seemed normal. But when the people returned to the city in the fall, they simply left Greta behind. Without a goodbye, without an explanation. The little cat girl did not understand why she was suddenly alone and had to fend for herself. Virginia took Greta in at the animal shelter. Since April, Greta has been living in a foster home in Germany and quickly won everyone's hearts. Behind her sweet doll-like face is an incredibly affectionate girl who loves being close to her people and wants to be with them all the time. At first, she cautiously observes new situations, but once she feels secure, she quickly warms up. Then there is purring, cuddling, and lots of demands for closeness. If you stop petting her, Greta will just lie down next to you, giving out diligent milk treads and little love bites, and purring contentedly. Of course, she also loves to play – especially with fishing pole toys, which Greta finds fantastic, and she even confidently demands playtime. With other cats, Greta generally shows composure but likes to test her boundaries. Therefore, any existing cats should not be too sensitive and give her the chance to settle in peacefully. Despite her past, Greta looks to the future with optimism. She is ready to open her heart again and is now looking for people who can provide the security she so deserves. Who will give this charming cat girl a home with lots of cuddle time and playtime? Greta is looking forward to hearing from her special people.

About Greta

What life with Greta looks like

Greta is a young adult mixed breed cat waiting at Glücksnasen e.V. Tierschutzverein in Germany.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Greta, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Greta?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Glücksnasen e.V. Tierschutzverein handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Greta on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Greta if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Glücksnasen e.V. Tierschutzverein will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Greta already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Greta isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Glücksnasen e.V. Tierschutzverein early rather than rehoming privately; they know Greta and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
