** Please note the ‘Contact for Availability’ function is currently not working. Please email the Rescue direct () if you are enquiring about an animal and include the animal’s name ** Gretchen is a lovely young cat with a gentle nature and a calm personality. Gretchen was found as a stray caring for her kittens. She did a wonderful job raising them, and now that all of her kittens have found homes, it is her turn to find a family of her own. Gretchen is a friendly and affectionate cat who enjoys human company and has a relaxed, easy-going temperament. She would make a wonderful companion for a variety of households and could happily live with children who are respectful of her space. Given careful introductions, Gretchen could potentially live with another cat or a cat-friendly dog. Her calm and adaptable nature suggests she may settle well into a home with other pets. After spending her early life looking after her kittens, Gretchen deserves a safe, loving home where she can finally be the one receiving all the care and attention. About Gretchen

What life with Gretchen looks like

Gretchen is a senior mixed breed cat cat waiting at Pennine Pen Animal Rescue CIO in United Kingdom.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Gretchen, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Gretchen?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Pennine Pen Animal Rescue CIO handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Gretchen on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Gretchen if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Pennine Pen Animal Rescue CIO will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Gretchen already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Gretchen isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Pennine Pen Animal Rescue CIO early rather than rehoming privately; they know Gretchen and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
