Gretchen

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 11 years

adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Gretchen has found her home! Her story: The forgotten senior, or also known as Gretchen, because she finally received her identity. If our Gretchen could speak, she would not have much to say. Only by chance did she come to our attention at the animal shelter, and we were informed about her. We knew that we had to place this grandma immediately and under all circumstances. For 7 long years, she was unseen and in a dreary daily routine, without any attention or warmth, without the loving care that one would wish for this creature in every moment. Despite this, Gretchen managed to retain her loving and human-like nature and probably wished every second for being taken in and starting a new life. At around 10-11 years old, she hopes that this will finally be possible, and we are looking for a loving and quiet home for Gretchen where she can arrive and spend her remaining years. She will not immediately master the daily routine in a household, who can blame her for that. But with lots of love and patience, she will surely learn it quickly. Gretchen is approximately 45-50 cm tall. She gets along well with fellow animals, as she spent all those years together with them. For her, we are looking for calm, empathetic people who can give her peace, care, many cuddle hours, and a lot of love. Whether she can still go for long walks, we cannot say, as age-related issues must be taken into consideration. She will receive it with loyalty and devotion and a lot of need for cuddles. We wish for Gretchen an open-plan home without many stairs. A quiet environment without much chaos. For a reduced adoption fee of 325 Euro, who would like to open the door for our Gretchen to start her new life and get her warm dog bed? Even a foster home would already be a door to paradise for her. Many thanks, Stefanie! You gave Gretchen her sweet name! A big thank you also goes to Stefanie H. and Tanja K., who both took on a monthly sponsorship for Gretchen. As of: 10.01. This animal is vaccinated. This animal is microchipped.

Stand: 10.01.2025

About Gretchen

What life with Gretchen looks like

Gretchen is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Gretchen, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Gretchen?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Gretchen on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Gretchen if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Gretchen already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Gretchen isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Gretchen and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
