Gretta

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 2 years

Gretta is a lively, curious, and energetic female dog at two years old. Standing at 55 cm shoulder height and weighing about 20 kg, she brings a pleasant size and happily accompanies her people through their daily lives. Currently living in 51709 Marienheide, she loves long walks, plays enthusiastically with her toys, and enjoys cozy cuddle moments. She is most content when she’s everywhere, discovering the world with great joy. Gretta learns very quickly and is easy to train. In some situations, she can be a bit unsure and therefore needs clear, calm guidance. Once she has orientation and security, she shows attentiveness, cooperation, and a thirst for knowledge. Driving is no problem, she walks nicely on a leash, and already masters the most important basic commands. She is house-trained and can also stay alone for a few hours. Gretta is generally compatible with other dogs, meeting most fellow animals openly, but at times her preference is decided by their liking. In her new home, she would prefer to be the sole princess, as she likes to have all the attention of her people. Cats or small pets should not live in her new home, as she has a prey drive. Her right hind leg is slightly crooked due to an old injury, which can be noticed when she runs. However, this does not limit her in her joyful life; she runs, plays, and exudes boundless energy. Gretta is attentive and will alert you if something seems unusual. Therefore, she wishes for a more quiet home, not in the middle of the city or in a large apartment building. Due to her sensitivity, no children should live in the home. She can be initially a bit reserved with men but warms up quickly with patience. For Gretta, we are looking for dog-experienced people who can provide her with security, structure, and loving consequences. Those who are willing to give her the necessary guidance and time will receive a loyal, eager-to-learn, and very lovable companion who brings joy with her cheerful nature. She is neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated. Please contact us by email or phone at the following number:

About Gretta

What life with Gretta looks like

Gretta is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Wuppertal in Wuppertal.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Gretta, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Gretta?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Wuppertal handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Gretta on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Gretta if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Wuppertal will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Gretta already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Gretta isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Wuppertal early rather than rehoming privately; they know Gretta and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
