Gromet

Male · Adult · 4 years

This handsome boy is Gromet! He is a friendly, affectionate lad who is searching for an experienced, active home where he can enjoy all the adventures life has to offer. He absolutely loves people and thrives on attention, happily soaking up all the fuss and cuddles he can get. Full of personality and enthusiasm, he’s always on the go and bursting with energy, making him the perfect companion for someone who enjoys an active lifestyle. Like many young, energetic Terriers he gets incredibly excited, especially when it’s time for a walk! His excitement sometimes gets the better of him, and he will jump up and even walk on his back legs in anticipation of heading out. He can also be very vocal and bouncy in his kennel as he eagerly waits for his turn to explore. He does pull on the lead and will need patient, consistent owners who are willing to continue his training and help him learn to stay calmer and walk nicely. With positive reinforcement and regular exercise, we are confident he will make great progress. This lovely lad is looking for a home that understands the lively nature of Terriers and is ready to channel his enthusiasm into fun, training and plenty of adventures. He will need a private secure garden. He has socialised with other dogs whilst in our care but is very giddy and full on so we feel he would be best rehomed as the only dog in the home, where he can learn manners around other dogs with lots of positive reinforcement and the full support of his new adopter. If you have a holiday booked in the next 3 months please wait until you return to apply for a dog.

About Gromet

What life with Gromet looks like

Gromet is a small adult dog waiting at Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) in Manchester.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Gromet, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Gromet?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Gromet on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Gromet if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Gromet already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Gromet isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Gromet and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
