GROMIT

GROMIT 499 - SENIOR - LANGZEITINSASSE Gromit 499 – Senior - Langzeitinsasse - male dog, neutered, born ca. 2016 shoulder height ca. 37 cm, in animal shelter PT since 24.08.2017. Gromit has a real fear of strangers. He immediately retreats to a corner of his enclosure and tries to avoid us. The caretakers believe we should not attempt to touch him, as he might snap. The young male dog can only bring sorrow, as he will never find a home in this condition. Gromit lives with a male dog and a female dog in the enclosure. (05/2018 A/M) Update 07/2020: Unfortunately, there has been no change in Gromit's behavior; he is still as shy. (M) Update 06/2021: Unfortunately, Gromit is still very shy and flees from us. Approaching him is not possible. Unfortunately, his primary caregiver is not present. He now wears a collar and also a flea collar – maybe his primary caregiver can now get a good hold on him. However, his behavior towards strangers has not changed. (M/A) Update 04/2024: Gromit has developed very well; he now walks on a leash with his primary caregiver and does so very well. He made cautious contact with us and allowed himself to be stroked a little. He is compatible with male and female dogs. We see positive changes in Gromit and wish him a quiet spot with people who have dog experience. (M/F)

About GROMIT

What life with GROMIT looks like

GROMIT is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at Hundehilfe Polen in Dierkshausen.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting GROMIT, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about GROMIT?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hundehilfe Polen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw GROMIT on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt GROMIT if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hundehilfe Polen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is GROMIT already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if GROMIT isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hundehilfe Polen early rather than rehoming privately; they know GROMIT and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
