BOBO 90 – SENIOR – LONG-TERM RESIDENT Bobo 90 – Senior – Long-term Resident – Male (German Shepherd mix), neutered, shoulder height approx. 55 cm, born around 10/2017, in the PT animal shelter since March 18, 2018. Bobo lives in the kennel together with the females Zola 93 and Fisia 89s, as well as the male Pusiak 88. (04/2018) Update 04/2018: Bobo and Fisia immediately disappear when they see a stranger—they are extremely fearful. The caregiver can pet them. (B) Update 05/2019: Zola seems slowly starting to gain some trust in people. Only photos of her could be taken. By contrast, no photos were possible of Bobo and Fisia. (M) Update 09/2020: From the once small, shy puppy, Bobo has grown into a large, stocky German Shepherd mix who remains very shy. Bobo excitedly greets his caregiver as soon as we enter the kennel. You can tell he knows and likes his caregiver—certainly expecting food. However, he keeps his distance. He doesn’t come close to her and won’t let himself be petted. Eventually, he flees into his hut, where the caregiver can gently stroke his head. (M/A) Update 06/2021: Bobo now sits alone in his kennel. He has clearly gained trust in his caregiver. He looks forward to seeing her and willingly lets himself be petted. When I, as a stranger, enter the kennel, he sits down in a corner and repeatedly tries to get back to his caregiver. But then he decides to take the treats from my hand—and even takes a step toward me to do so. Bobo has made significant progress. I no longer consider him a hopeless case at all. Even the caregiver says he doesn’t bite, even though he’s still very scared. (M/A)

About BOBO

What life with BOBO looks like

BOBO is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Hundehilfe Polen in Dierkshausen.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting BOBO, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about BOBO?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hundehilfe Polen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw BOBO on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt BOBO if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hundehilfe Polen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is BOBO already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if BOBO isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hundehilfe Polen early rather than rehoming privately; they know BOBO and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
