Grouse

English Springer Spaniel · Male

Grouse is a very lovable oldie. At almost 12 years of age, this English Springer Spaniel just needs a retirement home. His past life involved living outdoors and being a gundog so it’s high time that he gets the comforts of a home and can relax now as he pleases. He still walks very well but is a bit strong on the lead so would certainly need an adult handler. Grouse appears to be in good health and is looking better these days having received a bit of grooming from our volunteers. He is one of the quiet boys at the Shelter and is content to chill rather than make demands. A gentle boy, Grouse laps up all the attention shown to him. Grouse seems to like the other dogs at the Shelter so will most likely pass any doggy meet & greet. Grouse has not been neutered and we will not be getting him neutered at his age. He is microchipped 941000016631888, has been vaccinated and has received the usual preventative flea/worm treatments. Grouse is currently in the care of Kildare and West Wicklow SPCA The member society or animal centre will give you information on adopting an animal, including the cost, and can help you fill out the right forms.

About Grouse

What life with Grouse looks like

Grouse is a adult english springer spaniel dog waiting at ISPCA in Dublin.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇮🇪Adopting from Ireland

Irish shelters require a home check (often phone or video) and an adoption contract. Animals are vaccinated, chipped, and registered. Cross-border placements to mainland Europe require the rabies titer test (TRACES system).

Frequently asked

Adopting Grouse, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Grouse?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ISPCA handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Grouse on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Grouse if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ISPCA will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Grouse already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Grouse isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ISPCA early rather than rehoming privately; they know Grouse and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
