How do I contact the shelter about GUCIO?

Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Kraków handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw GUCIO on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.

Can I adopt GUCIO if I live in another country?

Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Kraków will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.

Is GUCIO already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?

Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.

What happens if GUCIO isn't the right fit?

Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Kraków early rather than rehoming privately; they know GUCIO and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.

Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?

TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.

GUCIO

Male · Adult · 5 years

Gucio is a small dog resembling a miniature dachshund—and he’s just as energetic as his larger hunting relatives. Found in Krakow, he likely spent a significant part of his life on a chain or in a kennel. At the shelter, he displayed self-aggressive behaviors typical of dogs who’ve been deprived of their needs for years: when stressed, he spins around in circles, trying to catch a tail that no longer exists. A walk with Gucio is a real workout! He wants to make up for all the scents and experiences he’s missed, so he tends to explore everywhere something piques his interest—among bushes, by lampposts, at the end of the leash. Despite his difficult past, he remains curious about the world and a charming little fellow. However, he’s a demanding dog. We now know he needs a very experienced, calm person. He has trouble with closeness and resource guarding, reacts poorly to sudden noises and thunderstorms, and wouldn’t do well in a noisy environment. We’re looking for a home for him without children or other pets—preferably in a quiet area, with a single person or a couple. Interestingly, left alone, he can peacefully sleep for several hours. Currently, he’s taking medication to help him manage his emotions, so consistent cooperation with a veterinarian specializing in behavioral pharmacotherapy will be crucial. A stable, patient caregiver and appropriate support are his best chance for success. With other dogs, he’s not aggressive but unsocialized—emotions quickly take over. With the right, balanced companion, proper relationships are possible in the future—but it’ll take work. Gucio is waiting for his third, this time happy, chance. Contact: 690 842 908

PL·Show original

Spacer z Guciem to prawdziwy trening kondycyjny. Chce nadrobić wszystkie zapachy i wrażenia, więc bywa wszędzie tam, gdzie coś go zaciekawi – w krzakach, przy latarniach, na końcu smyczy. Mimo trudnej przeszłości wciąż jest ciekawym świata, uroczym chłopakiem. To jednak pies wymagający. Obecnie przyjmuje leki wspierające go w radzeniu sobie z emocjami, dlatego kluczowa będzie stała współpraca z lekarzem weterynarii zajmującym się farmakoterapią behawioralną. Kontakt: 690 842 908

About GUCIO

What life with GUCIO looks like

GUCIO is a small adult dog waiting at Schronisko Kraków in Kraków.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.
