Gustl

adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Gustl has found a home! His story: Gustl settled well in a foster home and is described as an open, small, mischievous puppy who is fully enjoying his life. He likes to steal household items he can get his paws on and encourages the current pensioner in the foster home, whom he adores, to play with him in a boisterous and cheerful manner. During the first small walks, the little Gustl already walks bravely and curiously from left to right, exploring the new world; leash training, of course, must be practiced and explained. Gustl is already learning different signals like recall, stop, and wait. Additionally, house training is intensively trained, as Gustl shows great eagerness to learn. Gustl must first understand being alone. He is still a puppy, so he likes to be right in the middle of everything and with his people. He seeks their proximity without being intrusive and takes a relaxed nap with them. With strangers, he is initially a bit shy but warms up quickly. As often with shelter puppies, Gustl can hardly wait for feeding times. To ensure he chews and eats in peace, he gets his food from a anti-chewer bowl. Gustl is therefore, despite his first terrible experiences in Romania, an alert, lively little fellow who brings life and fun into the home, confidently orienting himself to his trusted persons and being gladly guided by them. He is about 4.5 months old and is expected to stay small when fully grown. Gustl is vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, and treated for fleas. He is named Gustl by the loving Franzi, who gave him a name and thus an identity. As of: 30.10.

Stand: 30.10.2024

About Gustl

What life with Gustl looks like

Gustl is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Gustl, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Gustl?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Gustl on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Gustl if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Gustl already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Gustl isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Gustl and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
