adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Gylfi has found a home! His story: The start of Gylfi's life was far from ideal. No one can say exactly what happened to him. Fortunately, Gylfi was brought to our Public Shelter Bistrita. While he is safe there and receives adequate food, unfortunately, there isn't enough time to properly care for the puppies in the shelter and teach them more about interacting with people. We wish so much that Gylfi could move into his new home soon, as winter has already knocked on the door… Winter in Bistrita is particularly harsh compared to other places. During weather changes, temperatures can drop to –15 degrees. This is barely tolerable for the dogs. The climate is even harder for puppies to endure. Gylfi is a beautiful, 3-month-old pup. With his special two-toned fur pattern, floppy ears, and his puppy eyes, he can charm anyone with his paws. Our helpers describe him as sweet, playful, and very friendly towards people. Additionally, Gylfi gets along well with his fellow animals. Compatibility with other cats has not been tested. Gylfi has not yet experienced life in a loving family. He still needs to learn the whole puppy ABC and is about to go through puberty. Here, he needs people who can approach him with love and patience, and possibly attend some positive dog training classes with him. He needs to learn leash walking, house training, and being alone. During puberty, he will surely test boundaries and may even forget some things he has learned. But once this phase is overcome, Gylfi will definitely make a great lifelong partner. Gylfi is microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas. He brings an EU pet passport with him and can be adopted after a positive foster home trial. We would be very happy to have a foster home for the sweet pup! Who will give him a loving forever home? Many thanks to Silvia! You named Gylfi. Status: 10.02.

Vielen Dank an Silvia! Du hast Gylfi seinen Namen geschenkt. About Gylfi

What life with Gylfi looks like

Gylfi is a puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Gylfi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Gylfi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Gylfi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Gylfi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Gylfi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Gylfi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Gylfi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
