Gypsy

Labrador Retriever · Male · Senior · 13 years

Gypsy had been roaming around Visan for a long time before he was finally brought to the shelter. His owner never came to collect him. He is a friendly dog who seems to adapt well to many situations. On the other hand, he has not had much training. He pulls hard on the leash, probably because he has gotten used to getting around on his own. He easily passes bikes, cars and people, and has no fear of the city. He really enjoys attention, and he has remarkable energy for a grandpa of more than ten years! He gets along with other dogs without any problem. But in a home, he wants all the space for himself: his recent adoption failed because after two weeks he no longer let the family's old dog come near his master. This situation could probably have been resolved with a bit of training, but the other dog's advanced age led his adopter to bring him back so that their other companion could spend its final days in peace, which is quite understandable. As for cats, it is less clear. He is in excellent health. Gypsy will need a home with a fenced yard and a fair amount of companionship. He has most likely been left to fend for himself, so a retirement as a pampered dog would suit him well. Because of his age, Gypsy qualifies for the "Doyens" program run by 30 Millions d'Amis, which covers veterinary costs up to 1000 euros.

FR·Show original

About Gypsy

What life with Gypsy looks like

Gypsy is a senior labrador retriever dog waiting at SPA Grillon in France.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇫🇷Adopting from France

French refuges follow the SPA framework: adopters sign a cession contract that includes sterilization, vaccinations, microchip identification, and rabies passport. Many refuges work with rescue transport partners for cross-border placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting Gypsy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Gypsy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SPA Grillon handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Gypsy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Gypsy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SPA Grillon will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Gypsy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Gypsy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SPA Grillon early rather than rehoming privately; they know Gypsy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
