Haiku

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy

Haiku - a small mixed-breed puppy urgently needs a home. Haiku arrived at the Spanish animal shelter in July 2026 at just about three and a half months old. The handsome mix was likely abandoned and found on the street. He has already experienced a lot in his young life: upon arrival, Haiku had a femur fracture and could barely walk. He has since undergone surgery and the prospects are good that his leg will heal completely. However, the next few weeks are particularly important for this. Haiku needs to rest, can only take very short walks on a leash, and most of all, he needs one thing: peace. Unfortunately, this is hard to find in the shelter. To protect his leg, the little guy currently spends almost the whole day in a restricted space. For a young dog who should actually play, discover, and learn about the world, this is of course anything but nice. That's why we are urgently looking for a foster family for Haiku - or even better, his own home. There, he could recover from the surgery in peace and at the same time experience how beautiful a safe and loving daily life can be. We wish for him people who make the decision to have a dog long-term and with a lot of thought and responsibility. He will surely become an active, energetic dog who enjoys activities and tasks. Right now, however, Haiku's recovery is the top priority. He has already experienced a lot - now he needs people who can give him the peace, care, and security he so desperately needs.

About Haiku

What life with Haiku looks like

Haiku is a small puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Haiku, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Haiku?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Haiku on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Haiku if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Haiku already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Haiku isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Haiku and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
