adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Now request this dog! Haldir has found a home! His story: As mysterious as his name, so is Haldir's past – his origin is unknown, his genetics a mystery. The approximately 1.5-year-old male dog, standing about 50 cm at the shoulder and weighing around 18 kg, currently lives in Fantanele. Haldir was found abandoned, and unfortunately, his story remains silent about the horrors he must have endured. His delicate character is deeply marked: he is a withdrawn and very shy dog, whose fear is not a choice but a clear consequence of suffered trauma. Although he is becoming increasingly curious about us humans, he still dares not be touched or led out for a walk. The helpers there visit him regularly and gently try to bring the world closer to him, but they have not yet reached him. He needs time to understand that no harm will come to him. Currently, he cannot be safely taken out, as he does not allow being led – a single escape attempt almost led to his loss. Haldir is compatible with other dogs and therefore seeks a home where a confident canine already resides, which can provide him with security. The compatibility with cats is unknown. Haldir does not seek ordinary adopters but soulmates, quiet observers with an unshakable heart. He needs patience, patience, and more patience. His new people must be ready to spend weeks, maybe even months, simply offering him peace and security in the house without any expectations. A home with a very securely fenced garden is essential to give him the chance to slowly get used to nature when he is ready. One should understand that his flight response is deeply rooted, so no pressure, no loud voices, no hectic approaches. Haldir needs people who read and respect his body language when he needs space. Ideally, these people have experience with anxious dogs and know that small progress like a brief eye contact is a huge success. Who adopts Haldir gets not an uncomplicated dog but the chance to heal a deeply wounded soul piece by piece. It will be a long but incredibly rewarding journey. Do you want to give Haldir the quiet, safe world where he can finally unfold his true, gentle core? Haldir travels neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea-treated to his home, together with his EU pet passport. After a positive But also an experienced foster home would be his chance at a happy future. Thank you Ulli K., with your nametag sponsorship, you have given Haldir an identity, perhaps the first time in his life. Status: 03.12.

Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt diesen Hund anfragen! Stand: 03.12.2025

About Haldir

What life with Haldir looks like

Haldir is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Haldir, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Haldir?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Haldir on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Haldir if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Haldir already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Haldir isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Haldir and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
