adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Hamlet can stay forever in his foster home! His story: 64319 Pfungstadt. Hamlet has been in his foster home since the end of February. Here, Hamlet has developed very positively, compared to how sad his life was in the Shelter Bistrita. Hamlet is still a very fit "young" man for his age, who sometimes likes to puff himself up in front of other male dogs. In the pack with fellow animals, he is a friendly little guy who still likes to play. With the first female dog in the household, he gets along splendidly, to say the least, they are like two souls in one body. According to his senior dog nature, he of course also watches over the house and garden. Towards strangers, he is still more than mistrustful and barks first. Good management is still necessary here. With a body size of about 55 to 60 cm, the handsome Opi has a medium build. With the appearance of age-related creaks, Hamlets' people should expect some. Our Opi thus seeks experienced loving people; rural surroundings and a garden with appropriate retreat possibilities are a must for our senior. We wish for Hamlet an experienced, patient, and affectionate handling by people who have no expectations of him and who are not intimidated by setbacks. Children should already be older and know how to handle dogs respectfully and responsibly. He should always be allowed to set his own pace and decide what is doable or not for him.

About Hamlet

What life with Hamlet looks like

Hamlet is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hamlet, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hamlet?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hamlet on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hamlet if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hamlet already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hamlet isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hamlet and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
