Hanni

European Shorthair · Female · Young · 3 years

Hallo, I am Hanni, about 3 years old, and I would like to tell you my story. I was caught by Katzenhilfe Oberhausen and was very sick at the time. I don't remember much about where I came from or what I experienced in my life. It wasn't always a happy time, because I found it hard to trust people at first. Luckily, there were people who helped me. Dr. Christoph Höptner, a specialist in small animals in Mülheim an der Ruhr, took me in and treated me lovingly. So I could recover and get a chance at a new, better life. After I recovered, I was allowed to move to a foster home. There I was supposed to learn that people, a flat, and a warm home are not so scary. However, that was quite difficult for me at first. For two months, I hid under the kitchen. From there, I could observe everything - but please with sufficient safety distance! Today I am much bolder! My foster mom can touch and even stroke me now. For me, that is a huge step forward. I am still a cautious cat and need time and patience, but I show more of my loving side every day. And something is very important to me: I really like other cats! That's why I really want to have cat company in my new home - preferably a nice, social cat buddy that I can orient myself around. My future home may offer secure outdoor access. If that's not possible, I can also be kept in a nice apartment as long as I have a suitable cat friend. Of course, I am already chipped, vaccinated, and spayed. I'm looking for people who understand that trust doesn't come overnight. People who give me the time I need and are happy about every small step. Maybe you are just the person I'm looking for, the person with whom I can eventually lie on the sofa and be stroked. ❤️ If you want to know more about me, please contact:

About Hanni

What life with Hanni looks like

Hanni is a young adult european shorthair cat waiting at Aktion Tierisch Happy e.V. in Germany.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hanni, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hanni?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Aktion Tierisch Happy e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hanni on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hanni if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Aktion Tierisch Happy e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hanni already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hanni isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Aktion Tierisch Happy e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hanni and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
