Hardy (in DE)

German Shepherd · Male · Senior · 11 years

Breed: Old German Shepherd Rüde (microchipped and vaccinated, cryptorchid) Age: Born on May 24, 2015 Size: Will be updated, Weight: approx. 47 kg A friendly "hello" to all dear people! I am Hardy, an old German Shepherd in senior age … at least on paper. Standingly, I belong to the large, sturdy dogs, and one cannot overlook me. I carry black with a touch of brown, otherwise I would be a forgery … but I find, or dare to claim, that my brown stands out, like autumn leaves in the sun. My erect ears are standard and have a 1A holding score. I have already proven myself as a faithful, intelligent, and attentive companion in my previous home. I am vigilant, reliably protect my home, and still learn with enthusiasm, showing myself to be active and playful … I must admit, I do not behave quite as befits my age. I enjoy cuddles very much, but I retain a bit of pride and do not beg for love. I walk obediently on a leash, have successfully completed a muzzle training for safety, and love the company of people. Overall, I am in very good health, my doc says I am fit except for a moderate arthrosis in the front leg. My previous owner recently passed away, that was a hard blow for me! Unfortunately, his relatives cannot keep me because they are professionally bound to be out of the house for long periods … so I am now searching for a new family through pfotenring! I am looking for a loving family that already has some dog experience because I, by breed, simply need a clear and consistent, but also very loving relationship! I am looking for a house with an enclosed garden, which has been my home my whole life, and I hope it will stay that way. It is also important to me to find responsible people who will stick with me through thick and thin. My new home should be one for always, and I must also be well cared for if I ever need medical support due to its age. That must also be financially secured… I enjoy beautiful walks, love the joy, and seek like-minded people to share that with me, who also have enough time for me. If you would like to adopt me, please contact my handlers.

About Hardy (in DE)

What life with Hardy (in DE) looks like

Hardy (in DE) is a medium-sized senior german shepherd dog waiting at Traurige Hundeherzen e.V. in Hamburg.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hardy (in DE), answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hardy (in DE)?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Traurige Hundeherzen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hardy (in DE) on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hardy (in DE) if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Traurige Hundeherzen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hardy (in DE) already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hardy (in DE) isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Traurige Hundeherzen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hardy (in DE) and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
