Haru

Male · Puppy · 10 months

Haru is still a puppy—just eight months old—but already it’s clear that true terrier blood flows through his veins. He’s smart, full of energy, curious about the world, and always ready for a new adventure. A walk with him is a blend of discovery, play, and learning, because Haru loves to sniff around, explore his surroundings, and eagerly absorb everything he encounters along the way. At the same time, he can focus on his human companion—he responds to commands, knows the “sit” command, walks nicely on a leash, and is increasingly eager to cooperate with people. Although at first glance he may seem like a little rascal, beneath all that puppy energy lies a sensitive dog who is still learning about life and discovering the world. Some new situations can catch him off guard—for instance, grass swaying in the wind or an unfamiliar object will make him pause briefly and carefully assess the situation. In those moments, having a calm guardian by his side gives him the confidence to keep going. Once he’s convinced nothing threatens him, he’ll continue on, wagging his tail happily and ready for more discoveries. Haru is very affectionate and enjoys close human company. He loves coming over for petting, gives adorable little looks, and becomes more open with each walk. He adores playing, loves water, is interested in other dogs, and everything suggests he’ll make a wonderful companion for canine friendships. In his kennel, he can get very excited—it’s a young dog who finds confinement and excess stimulation hard to handle. He needs a guardian who can teach him how to calmly experience excitement and show him that patience pays off too. We’re looking for an active home for Haru—but above all, a thoughtful one—one that understands the needs of a young terrier and knows that a tired dog isn’t just a dog who’s been walked enough; it’s also a dog who gets to sniff, learn new things, and develop his intelligence. Haru has enormous potential—he’s clever, learns quickly, and is eager to work closely with people. All he needs is a consistent guide who’ll help him grow into a wonderful dog. We don’t recommend Haru for homes with small children or noisy households where there’s a lot of activity going on. We don’t know how Haru interacts with other companion animals, including cats. During the adoption process, we strongly recommend a pre-adoption visit to see how Haru adjusts to his new home and potential walking areas. If Haru were to go to a home where another animal already lives, a meet-and-greet with the resident animal would be required. Due to diagnosed chondrodystrophy of the front limbs, the future guardian should remember to take appropriate preventive measures and care for Haru’s spine and joints, avoiding excessive strain and consulting with a veterinarian about his activity level. A home with an elevator or few stairs to climb is preferred.

About Haru

What life with Haru looks like

Haru is a medium-sized puppy/kitten dog waiting at Schronisko Na Paluchu in Warsaw.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Haru, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Haru?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Na Paluchu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Haru on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Haru if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Na Paluchu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Haru already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Haru isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Na Paluchu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Haru and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
