Hauka

Female · Adult · 6 years

Hauka is about a six-year-old female dog of the Chow Chow breed who came to us in very poor condition. We are still in the process of her diagnosis, but we already know that she will need treatment and rehabilitation. Due to her health condition, we are looking for a home for Hauki that is ready for the costs associated with veterinary treatment and rehabilitation. We do not know Hauki's past, but we suspect that the human being is not associated with anything good for her. When she arrived, she was somewhat withdrawn and uncertain, did not initiate contact with us, and could be somewhat suspicious towards us during walks. Each day, she is more and more opening up to people, watches for us in the shelter kennel, and approaches us for small portions of affection during walks. Her relationships with other dogs are good, she does not show aggression towards them and can be very interested in them. We suspect that Hauka could live with another dog after introductory walks and a home visit. We do not recommend her for a home with other, smaller animals. For Hauki, we are looking for a calm home that will show her that the human being can be associated with love and care. The future caregiver should use positive training methods and be familiar with the breed's specifics and be ready for the costs associated with veterinary care. If you can give her the home she needs, please call. We ask for thoughtful calls.

About Hauka

What life with Hauka looks like

Hauka is a medium-sized adult dog waiting at Schronisko Na Paluchu in Warsaw.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Requires medical treatment and rehabilitation, needs quiet home without children or other animals

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hauka, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hauka?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Na Paluchu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hauka on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hauka if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Na Paluchu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hauka already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hauka isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Na Paluchu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hauka and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
