Haze

Labrador Retriever · Male · Young · 3 years

The young Labradormix Haze (*5/2021) came to us at the animal shelter because the living situation of his previous owner changed and he could no longer keep him. Haze found the adjustment to the animal shelter not easy and it took some time for him to trust his new trusted people. In the meantime, Haze has developed very positively. On daily walks, he runs well on the leash and ignores joggers, cyclists, and other external stimuli. In dog encounters, Haze usually behaves neutrally, but if he is approached by fellow animals, he may react a bit more strongly. Since Haze sometimes has a bit of trouble accepting a corresponding correction in such situations, he is currently led with a muzzle at our shelter - but he is not muzzle-obligatory. In direct contact with his trusted people, Haze shows himself very open, quickly forms a close bond, and enjoys extensive cuddles. For the very eager-to-learn fellow, we are looking for dog-experienced people who can "read" him and keep him adequately occupied both physically and mentally. Since Haze sometimes reacts a bit insecurely in certain situations, his future owners should be able to give him the necessary security through a confident handling and clear guidance. In his new home, Haze would like to be a single prince, and we do not want to introduce him to children. To get to know Haze better, his potential owners should be able to arrange several visits to the animal shelter.

About Haze

What life with Haze looks like

Haze is a medium-sized young adult labrador retriever dog waiting at Tierheim Düsseldorf in Düsseldorf.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Requires muzzle during walks due to potential reactivity with other dogs. Needs to be single dog in household.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Haze, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Haze?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Düsseldorf handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Haze on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Haze if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Düsseldorf will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Haze already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Haze isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Düsseldorf early rather than rehoming privately; they know Haze and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
