Adopt Hazel

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 7 years

HAZEL was rescued from a euthanasia station in Romania with her twin brother Leon over a year ago. Nobody knows what she has already experienced. No wonder she is still somewhat cautious and does not immediately open up to people. Currently, she is at a private animal shelter named "Life goes on" with Ionut Stanciu in Sibiu. She is allowed to learn at her own pace there that proximity is not threatening. She observes, sniffs around, pulls back, then comes closer—just as she feels secure. And Hazel is making progress. Therefore, it would be time for her to now be raised in a home with people where her trust can be cultivated. She needs to be encouraged and become more confident. Behind her reserve is not fear of people but caution. Slowly, HAZEL is becoming braver. But now HAZEL needs people who meet her with patience, calmness, and understanding. People who show her that the world can also be beautiful and safe. If one gives her time, she opens up and shares her quiet, honest love. She is a female dog who returns much love and would develop into a pleasant companion dog. Hazel was born on 01.01.2019 and is 50 cm tall. She weighs 20-25 kg. She has been vaccinated, neutered, and microchipped. Anyone who falls in love with HAZEL and wants to know more can contact: 05071 – 4126 or Hazel in video:

About Hazel

What life with Hazel looks like

Hazel is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at ITV Grenzenlos e.V. in Essel.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hazel, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hazel?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ITV Grenzenlos e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hazel on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hazel if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ITV Grenzenlos e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hazel already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hazel isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ITV Grenzenlos e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hazel and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
