Hazel

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 2 years

Hazel is a spayed mixed breed female dog born in March 2024 who lived on the streets with other dogs in a pack until she was brought to the animal shelter in Svilos by Serbian animal rescuers. She is now ready to travel and is eagerly waiting for a loving family. Hazel is an extremely people-oriented, affectionate and cuddly dog who loves the closeness to her caregivers above all else. At the same time, Hazel is active, loves long walks and shared activities - without being overly active or demanding. She is a great companion for people who like to be outdoors, but are not looking for a very athletic dog. Hazel is very eager to learn, attentive and wants to please. She bonds closely with her humans: As a former street dog, she was particularly attached to the man who fed her regularly, protected her and showed her her loyal, faithful soul. We wish Hazel a family or individual who brings enough time for walks, activities and closeness and gives her the love and stability she so deserves. The shoulder height is 54 cm and she weighs about 17 kg. She is currently in the animal shelter in Serbia.

About Hazel

What life with Hazel looks like

Hazel is a medium-sized young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Animal Care Hungary.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇭🇺Adopting from Hungary

Hungarian shelters operate at high capacity given the country's stray population. Animals leave sterilized, chipped, and with a passport. Many shelters coordinate transport to Germany, Austria, and the Nordics.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hazel, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hazel?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animal Care Hungary handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hazel on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hazel if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animal Care Hungary will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hazel already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hazel isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animal Care Hungary early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hazel and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (HU). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
