Adopt Hazel

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 7 years

Friendly bundle of energy seeks new family Hello, my name is Hazel. Not related to Hazel Brugger… just a little joke on the side. But honestly, I’m not really in the mood for laughing. I was found in the triangle between Bad Iburg, Hagen, and GMHütte. As is often the case, no owner could be identified, even though I am microchipped. People, the chip alone doesn’t help with returning me – it also needs to be registered. Conclusion until today: All attempts (including those via the chip manufacturer) have been in vain, and it seems that no one missed me. My age is estimated to be between six and eight years, although personally, I see it quite differently. I am fit and agile, and despite my slightly gray muzzle, I would definitely prefer to be six years old. Interest came quickly. I was even allowed to move out temporarily, but unfortunately, it turned out that I wasn’t compatible with the existing dog. Joint walks were no problem, but I don’t like sharing food. I wanted to clear things up in a dog-like manner – but that went over very poorly. Now I’m back here, and everyone knows by now that sharing isn’t one of my strengths. It has become clear that I don’t need other dogs. I keep them at bay with barking and growling. On the other hand, I find humans great. Cuddling, petting, playing, and walks – all excellent. Walking on a leash, basic commands, giving paw? No problem. It also seems that I can stay alone for short periods, and regarding house training, I’d say that shouldn’t be a problem either. With minor restrictions, I would describe myself as a dream on four paws. Please don’t let my barking at the kennel fence put you off – it’s simply part of the routine here. Once I get to know you, that will be over immediately. Oh, and I’m not neutered; my last heat was at the end of November. So, get off the couch, make an appointment – and I will convince you of my qualities in no time. Animal adoptions are currently by appointment only. We therefore ask you to contact us in advance by phone at 05481 / 4146 or by email if you are interested in one of our animals.

About Hazel

What life with Hazel looks like

Hazel is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Tecklenburger Land in Lengerich.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hazel, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hazel?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Tecklenburger Land handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hazel on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hazel if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Tecklenburger Land will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hazel already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hazel isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Tecklenburger Land early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hazel and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
