Hector

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy

Hector - a big charmer with an even bigger heart. Hector, born in July 2025, is a young Mastin mix dog who ended up in a Spanish animal shelter together with his sister Hannah. Despite this difficult start in life, he has preserved his cheerful and friendly nature. Hector is just as open-minded and people-oriented as his sister. He is delighted by any form of attention, enjoys petting, and meets new situations with curiosity and interest. He already has an impressive appearance - and when fully grown, he will certainly be a fine representative of his breed. Typical for a Mastin mix, Hector probably contains a loyal, watchful, and very faithful companion who wants to build a close bond with his humans. With loving, consistent training and enough space to develop, he will grow into a confident and reliable family dog. We wish Hector a home in the countryside, ideally with a house and a securely fenced property. People with experience in handling large dogs would be an advantage, as well as patience, time, and joy in showing a young dog the world. Hector is ready to give away his heart - to people who want to give him security, love, and a forever home. Here is Hector's video Here is Video 2

About Hector

What life with Hector looks like

Hector is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hector, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hector?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hector on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hector if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hector already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hector isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hector and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
