Hector

Mixed Breed · Male

Hector is a neutered mixed-breed male born in January 2025, taken over by our Hungarian partner organization from another animal welfare organization. He approaches all people openly, is extremely friendly and always in a good mood. He enjoys exercise, is very eager to learn and is easily motivated. The handsome boy is curious and would be a great companion on walks or hikes. Bator is well suited as a family dog and would certainly be a loyal friend to teenagers. He gets along well with female dogs and plays enthusiastically with them. However, with other males, it depends on their personalities. Therefore, we recommend him as a second dog to a female dog. It is not known how he reacts to cats. He is looking for loving and active people who enjoy training, have enough free time and live in a rural or suburban area. Some experience in dog ownership should already be available. The male has a shoulder height of 50 cm and weighs 20 kg.

HU·Show original

About Hector

What life with Hector looks like

Hector is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Animal Care Hungary.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇭🇺Adopting from Hungary

Hungarian shelters operate at high capacity given the country's stray population. Animals leave sterilized, chipped, and with a passport. Many shelters coordinate transport to Germany, Austria, and the Nordics.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hector, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hector?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animal Care Hungary handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hector on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hector if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animal Care Hungary will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hector already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hector isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animal Care Hungary early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hector and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (HU). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
