adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Now request this dog! Heidi lives in a pension in Salzwedel and is waiting there for your visit. She is a beautiful female dog, with her reddish-brown fur making her a real standout. Heidi was one of the long-term residents at the Shelter in Bistrita. For almost 2 years, she sat in a 2 square meter space and spent her youth there. Now, her life is starting anew, and she has a lot to catch up on. Heidi originally came from Bistrita, Romania. She belonged to the many unfortunate souls we met in May 2021 during our visit to Bistrita. She enjoys cuddles with her trusted people and shows herself as a friendly female dog to those she trusts. Heidi is approximately 6 years old and has a beautiful size of around 60-65 cm. Heidi is breathtakingly beautiful and she is super cuddly, loving her people and her trusted ones. Playing, going for walks, playing in the water, and cuddles are her favorite activities. But Heidi only wants to experience all of this with people she knows. She is very mistrustful of strangers. Heidi is a herding dog and brings with her corresponding traits. She is initially mistrustful of strangers and needs some time to build trust. It would be great for her if her new owners have an enclosed yard or a garden. Herding dogs are independent personalities that require their owner to have consistency and empathy and the ability to deal with an intelligent, independent-minded dog. They bring many wonderful traits but are not command-taking dogs like herding dogs. People who already have experience with herding dogs do not want other breeds anymore, as they are very loyal and faithful companions. They have a very calm and gentle nature but are also very vigilant.

About Heidi

What life with Heidi looks like

Heidi is a extra-large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Heidi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Heidi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Heidi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Heidi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Heidi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Heidi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Heidi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
