Heike

Mixed Breed · Female · Puppy

Mixed-breed Heike is looking for her forever home. Our Bulgarian partner animal shelter has received new puppies, including little Heike who was taken in with her five sisters and is now eagerly waiting for a permanent home or foster placement. Heike is an open, curious, and friendly young dog. She is playful, very social around other dogs, and enjoys human interaction and all forms of attention and affection. She gets along well with two-legged and four-legged friends. We are looking for people who are willing to guide a puppy on her journey through life. This requires patience, time, and clear, loving upbringing. Step by step, she will learn everything a dog should know - from house training to being left alone, driving in the car, and safely exploring her environment. With positive reinforcement and calm, understanding handling, she will develop well and grow into a loyal companion. Heike wants to be age-appropriately stimulated and discover the world with her humans. It is possible that Heike has some herding dog traits. Therefore, her future owners should familiarize themselves with the typical characteristics of these dogs. A rural home with securely fenced garden would be particularly suitable for her. Who would like to give Heike a forever home or accompany her as a foster placement on her journey through life? Adopting an animal from a shelter always means taking on special responsibility and can also become a challenge. The dogs bring a backpack of past experiences or unlearned situations with them and need time to adjust to their new lives. If you are seriously interested in adopting Heike, please contact the responsible SALVA Hundehilfe mediator. We would also be very happy to provide a foster placement. Here is Heike's video

About Heike

What life with Heike looks like

Heike is a puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Heike, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Heike?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Heike on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Heike if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Heike already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Heike isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Heike and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
