adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Hektar has found a home! His story: Our dog model Hektar, at 5 years old, has passed the exhausting phase of puberty and has developed into an amazing, incredibly people-oriented male dog. He was already allowed to travel to Germany at the age of 1.5, but unfortunately, his owner fell seriously ill, and so the young boy had to change homes without fault. Our strikingly beautiful Hektar is intelligent and temperamental and is always ready for mental stimulation and adventure. He gets his rest by retreating on his own, so being alone is not a problem for our wonderful guy after adequate stimulation. He is the perfect companion in all life situations because he would like to be as close to his people as possible. A loyal German Shepherd, indeed. Hectic movements unsettle him a little, so he should not be rehomed with children under the age of teenagers. During dog encounters, like with many male dogs, it depends on mutual affection, but with loving, sovereign guidance, he is easy to handle. Hektar is a sensitive, large, and extremely people-oriented dog. An absolute soul dog who loves to snuggle with his family, shows no territorial behavior, and also greets strangers openly. We see Hektar in an environment that already has experience with this breed and loves and values it. He deserves a home where he can show his heart of gold. Cats should not live in the household, as he displays a prey drive. Hektar was originally rescued from the kill shelter of the public our shelter in Zalau and brought to safety in our private shelter. We know nothing about his past. The wonderful German Shepherd mix currently lives in Bawinkel (Niedersachsen) and is looking forward to a meet-and-greet! Hektar is neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated. He possesses an EU pet passport and can travel after a positive evaluation. Has the wonderful puppy boy captured your heart? Then contact us to meet him in person! Thank you Sunny W.! You named Hektar! Date: 02.08.

Vielen Dank Sunny W.! Du hast Hektar seinen Namen geschenkt. Stand: 02.08.2025

About Hektar

What life with Hektar looks like

Hektar is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hektar, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hektar?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hektar on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hektar if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hektar already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hektar isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hektar and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
