Adopt HEKTOR

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Senior · 13 years

Born in 2013, HEKTOR was taken in by an intervention from very bad conditions, where his only "companions" were wild rats. Initially, Hector was so scared of being in the animal shelter that he didn't want to leave his kennel. Fortunately, there was not a trace of aggression in him, so staff and volunteers often visited him to convince the guy that people are nice and there's no need to be afraid. Fortunately, the dog slowly started to open up, and it was visible that "visits" to his kennel pleased him and that he was no longer so terrified. Although on the first walks he was frightened by the world around him, each walk was better than the previous one, and now Hector is one of the most affectionate dogs in our animal shelter. Although he needs a moment to get used to a new person, he rewards those he knows with an abundance of love. When the petting stops, he immediately demands another dose of affection with his paw and nose. Perhaps he never experienced it before, and now, in the animal shelter, he has discovered how pleasant it is to snuggle with a human. HEKTOR is another dog who is better off in the animal shelter than with his previous "caregivers". We are looking for a home for Hector, where the dog will receive lots of love, which he so desperately needs.

About HEKTOR

What life with HEKTOR looks like

HEKTOR is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko dla Bezdomnych Zwierząt w Zielonej Górze in Zielona Góra.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting HEKTOR, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about HEKTOR?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko dla Bezdomnych Zwierząt w Zielonej Górze handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw HEKTOR on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt HEKTOR if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko dla Bezdomnych Zwierząt w Zielonej Górze will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is HEKTOR already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if HEKTOR isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko dla Bezdomnych Zwierząt w Zielonej Górze early rather than rehoming privately; they know HEKTOR and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
