** Please note the ‘Contact for Availability’ function is currently not working. Please email the Rescue direct () if you are enquiring about an animal and include the animal’s name ** Hendrix is a male Shih Tzu with a heart full of love and plenty of life still to enjoy. He has been deeply loved throughout his life, but sadly came into our care after his owner was no longer able to look after him. He is a sweet, loyal, little gentleman who adores his people and is an all-round good boy. Hendrix enjoys his walks and walks beautifully on a harness, but more than anything, he loves companionship. He has never been used to being left alone for long periods, so he is looking for a home where someone is around for most of the day while he settles in, and where he will not regularly be left for extended periods afterwards. His ideal home would be with someone who works from home, is retired, or simply has a lifestyle that means he is only left for the usual day-to-day errands. Hendrix is very social with other dogs and has happily lived with canine companions before, so dog introductions can be arranged. He has also lived with cats and was often found curled up beside them, making him a lovely companion for feline friends too. Although Hendrix is used to visiting children and enjoys their company, we feel he would be happiest in an adult-only home where he can enjoy a quieter lifestyle and relax in peace once his young visitors have gone home. Hendrix passed his veterinary health check with flying colours. The only finding was a grade 2 heart murmur. At present, this is not causing him any problems, but it is something potential adopters should be aware of, as it may require medication in the future. Equally, it may remain unchanged for years, we simply want to be open and honest so adopters can make an informed decision. About Hendrix

What life with Hendrix looks like

Hendrix is a senior shih tzu dog waiting at Pennine Pen Animal Rescue CIO in United Kingdom.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hendrix, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hendrix?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Pennine Pen Animal Rescue CIO handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hendrix on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hendrix if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Pennine Pen Animal Rescue CIO will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hendrix already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hendrix isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Pennine Pen Animal Rescue CIO early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hendrix and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
