** Please note the ‘Contact for Availability’ function is currently not working. Please email the Rescue direct () if you are enquiring about an animal and include the animal’s name ** Buster is a gorgeous boy who came into our care from one of the pounds we work closely with. He was found as a stray and, sadly, never claimed. Buster is the sweetest little gentleman. He is loving, affectionate, and full of charm. He would make the perfect companion for an older person or couple looking for a loyal best friend. Despite being a senior, Buster is still active and enjoys his walks. He walks beautifully on a harness and is an absolute pleasure to take out. We feel Buster would be fine with sensible, respectful visiting children. However, as an older gentleman, we would prefer him not to live with young children so he can enjoy plenty of peace and relaxation in his retirement. Buster can be left for sensible periods once he has settled into his new home. Medical Information – Please Read Carefully: During Buster’s veterinary health check, his eyes, ears, mouth, legs, and overall health all received a clean bill of health. However, the vet did detect a grade 4–5 heart murmur, which is unfortunately quite common in older dogs. Buster is booked in for an echocardiogram (heart scan) next week to give us a clearer picture of what is going on and whether medication is needed. At this stage, it is highly likely that he has Mitral Valve Disease (MVD) and will need to start heart medication to help manage the condition. The good news is that Buster is happy, active, and showing no clinical signs of illness. Many dogs with MVD go on to live long, happy, and comfortable lives with the right medication and regular veterinary care. Buster is looking for someone truly special who is willing to look beyond his heart murmur and give him the loving forever home he deserves, while also being prepared for the ongoing cost of his medication. We promise you, he will be worth every penny. He really is the most wonderful little dog. About Buster

What life with Buster looks like

Buster is a senior chihuahua dog waiting at Pennine Pen Animal Rescue CIO in United Kingdom.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Buster, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Buster?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Pennine Pen Animal Rescue CIO handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Buster on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Buster if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Pennine Pen Animal Rescue CIO will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Buster already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Buster isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Pennine Pen Animal Rescue CIO early rather than rehoming privately; they know Buster and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
