Henry

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 3 years

Heartbreaker with a history: Henry (4 Y.) is seeking his permanent home with dog-experienced people. With a heavy heart, I have decided to search for a new, loving "Forever Home" for my dog Henry. Henry was born on June 30, 2022, in Odessa and came to me through animal welfare. He is a dog who needs a stable primary caregiver to rely on – I am specifically looking for an end placement where he can arrive and not be a "wanderer." Personality & Character: Henry is a fundamentally very friendly, active, and highly intelligent male dog. He is a loyal soul who shows his joy at the arrival of his primary caregiver with high jumps. He loves to cuddle extensively and prefers to push his nose right under the arm. Daily & Companion Qualities: In daily interactions, Henry shows many wonderful sides: He remains problem-free alone (at home or in a hotel), travels comfortably by car, and is an enthusiastic man-trailer. His impeccable behavior in public is particularly noteworthy: Restaurant visits are completely uncomplicated with him; he lies there quietly and calmly under the table. He loves his Kong over everything, even though stuffed toys don't last long with him. Health: Henry survived a collision with a vehicle in Ukraine ( ? ). A slightly shorter right hind leg remains, which does not restrict him. His teeth were professionally cleaned by a veterinarian in Starnberg in 2024; a dental cleaning is scheduled for the spring. To support him in stressful moments, he currently receives some hemp oil, which helps him to calm down faster. Challenges & Safety: Due to past traumas, Henry has a great fear of men and, especially, children. Although we have made progress, Henry can react defensively-aggressively in overstimulation situations. With a grandchild now living in my household, who is becoming increasingly agile, the situation is too stressful for Henry and not safe for the child. Henry clearly shows when something is too much for him. However, if these signals are ignored, he will advance. Therefore, a household with children is absolutely out of the question for him. Cats should also not live in the household. Requirements for the new home: I am looking for a dog-experienced individual or a quiet couple who can read Henry. They should have clarity, sovereignty, and a consistent but loving leadership. A rural, quiet environment without much noise would be ideal, as city noise stresses him. In the outdoors, he gets along with most fellow animals. In the house, he would rather be a solo prince, as he tends to dominate other dogs on his own territory. Henry walks on a lead, as the recall is not yet secure and he shows hunting behavior. It is a heart matter for me to facilitate a gentle transition for Henry to his new person, giving him the security he so desperately needs. If you feel called and have the necessary experience, I look forward to meeting you. Henry lives in Oberhausen near Huglfing. My phone number is: , my email address:. This dog has a prey drive.

About Henry

What life with Henry looks like

Henry is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Starnberg in Starnberg.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Henry, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Henry?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Starnberg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Henry on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Henry if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Starnberg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Henry already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Henry isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Starnberg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Henry and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
