Hera

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 2 years

Hera - a small fighter heart finally seeks a home ❤️🐾 Sometimes a small dog's life begins with unimaginable suffering. And sometimes it takes people who won't look away. ❤️ Hera was simply abandoned. Left to her own devices, defenseless and probably full of fear. Then the terrible thing happened: she was hit by a car. Luckily, animal rescuers found little Hera in time. They brought her to safety and fought together with her for her life. Intensive treatments and therapies should help her get back on her feet. But despite all efforts, her leg could not be saved. 💔 Hera had to be operated on and now lives on three legs. But Hera has something very special: her will to live. ❤️ She hasn't given up. She wants to live, she wants to be loved and she wants to finally experience how beautiful a home can be. 🐶 Hera, born 2024, weighs about 6 kg and is a small, very special little girl. In some situations Hera still shows that her past has left its mark. When it comes to food, she can be a bit possessive - maybe because she had to experience what it means not to get enough. With patience, firm routines and a safe environment, she will learn that she doesn't have to be afraid of being left out today. Hera also sometimes reacts a bit fearfully to men. She needs people who give her time to build trust and don't pressure her. 🌿 We wish Hera a rural home. As a three-legged dog, Hera should be able to run as much as possible on soft, natural surfaces like meadows, forest paths and unpaved roads. Such surfaces are more gentle on the joints and help to relieve her musculoskeletal system. Also, there should be no stairs in her home. It is especially important to us that Hera has the opportunity to move freely in her new home. Three-legged dogs can't always keep their body tension and balance as well as they can when they're on the move. This doesn't mean that Hera can't go for walks on a leash - of course she should learn and be able to do that. ❤️ But we want people who can also give her the opportunity to move freely on suitable paths. Hera doesn't need people who see her three legs as a flaw. She needs people who say: "You are just right, just as you are." ❤️ Hera is neutered, fully vaccinated and microchipped and has an EU pet passport. 🙏 Who will give this little fighter a chance at a new life? If you have fallen in love with Hera and want to show her that a dog's life can be beautiful even after a difficult start, please fill out our adoption questionnaire first. Only then can we get to know Hera and her future family and find out together if you are meant for each other. ❤️🐾 📩 You can find the questionnaire on our website under

About Hera

What life with Hera looks like

Hera is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Förderverein Tiernothilfe Siebenbürgen e.V. in Germany.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hera, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hera?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Förderverein Tiernothilfe Siebenbürgen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hera on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hera if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Förderverein Tiernothilfe Siebenbürgen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Hera already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hera isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Förderverein Tiernothilfe Siebenbürgen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hera and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
