Herbert – bleibt beim Besitzer

Mixed Breed · Female

Herbert is a handsome, lovable puppy dog who constantly seeks the proximity of his primary caregiver – in the eyes of his owners, he is a much too large “lap dog,” very cuddly, and affectionate. For this reason, it also proves difficult for him to be alone, even at bedtime he seeks tactile contact with his people. The Golden treasure has grown on everyone very much, and his occasional clumsiness still manages to evoke an involuntary smile. Sadly, the family must bid farewell to their favorite, because the already present 4-year-old female Appenzeller dog does not accept the newcomer – she cannot overcome her jealousy. When Herbert was allowed to move in about half a year ago, he was largely left to his own devices as a puppy and had no orientation. No wonder that the young pup now views strangers, and everything new, with great respect at first. Once he has gained trust, he can overcome his insecurity! The young man possesses a clever, extremely eager-to-learn brain, and his family has already achieved much with the help of a trainer. Our big guy is therefore on the way to becoming a super good dog and a faithful companion. For Herbert, we wish for a rural home with some understanding of dogs, empathy, and patience. His new people should give him security, be affectionate but consistent with him, and above all have time for him. As soon as boredom sets in, he has a mischievous streak – then it won’t be long before the house slipper is shaken. – But who can blame him, he just needs something to lean on! Children in the household should be nearly grown-up. A confident, secure second dog could be helpful under certain circumstances. In short – an adorable, heart-good giant puppy to fall in love with!!!!

DE·Show original

About Herbert – bleibt beim Besitzer

What life with Herbert – bleibt beim Besitzer looks like

Herbert – bleibt beim Besitzer is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierhilfe Franken e.V. in Lauf.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Herbert – bleibt beim Besitzer, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Herbert – bleibt beim Besitzer?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierhilfe Franken e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Herbert – bleibt beim Besitzer on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Herbert – bleibt beim Besitzer if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierhilfe Franken e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Herbert – bleibt beim Besitzer already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Herbert – bleibt beim Besitzer isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierhilfe Franken e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Herbert – bleibt beim Besitzer and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
