Hercules

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Senior · 20 years

Hercules has already come a long way and is bravely continuing on … until he finds his/his people, where he can snuggle into a chair and stay forever. He is such a brave, lovable, and intelligent male dog who, with the right, dog-experienced, lovingly-patient two-legged companion, will surely form a real “dream team.” Dog experience is advantageous because Hercules is a large and muscular dog who unfortunately learned the darker side of life. He has developed well, but a residual fear and caution towards people has remained. Hercules was abandoned and had to live a hard life on the streets: suffering much hunger and trusting no one. People discovered the lovable male dog, had to trap him with a live trap because he mistrusted everyone and everything. He found a foster family, learned as a clever survivor that people can also be good, and gained more and more trust. His behavior is now simply fantastic: very loving and obedient. Hercules learns very quickly, and of course, a dog cookie always helps. Hercules needs a home with people who have understanding and patience, with whom he can build deep trust and who will continue to nurture him with love and also challenge him positively. Although he is a very lovable, obedient male dog, Hercules is not a snuggle dog. Experience with large dogs and the corresponding empathy paired with consistency are important for him. A new home in the countryside with a garden is a dream for Hercules. He gets along well with female dogs, but shows his dominant behavior with his own gender. He does not get along with cats. In the house, he behaves impeccably (he loves to sleep in his chair): quiet, house-trained, and very loving and careful. © 2006-2024 by animal welfare association Europa e.V.

DE·Show original

© 2006-2024 by Tierschutzverein Europa e.V. - All rights reserved

About Hercules

What life with Hercules looks like

Hercules is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Europa in München.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hercules, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hercules?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Europa handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hercules on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hercules if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Europa will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hercules already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hercules isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Europa early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hercules and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
