Adopt Hermine & Hanno

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

- initially reserved and shy - need a quiet, childless home - prefer people with experience with shy cats - house-trained Hermine and Hanno were (estimated) born in September 2025 to a wild stray cat and lived on the streets for the first six months of their lives. In April, the two came into our care and were medically treated, vaccinated, and neutered. Like all strays, the two siblings still need to learn that people can be trusted. Hanno has made significant progress in this regard: once he has developed trust in a person, he approaches cautiously but far enough to take treats from their hand. He still does not allow being petted, and it will take a little more patience and training for that next step. Hermine, his tall sister, is very freedom-loving and moves confidently through the room. She can hardly wait to move into a new home with plenty of space where, after an adjustment period, she can also go out into the yard. While she shows interest when a person is in the room, she prefers to stay hidden most of the time. She has shown little interest in interacting with people so far. The two siblings have adapted to life in the house to the extent that they reliably use the cat litter box, love scratching posts, like to sit at the windows, and sleep on elevated surfaces – typical feline behavior. The siblings seek a home with quiet people who ideally have experience with shy cats, can offer them enough peace and privacy, and can give them the time they need to adjust to life with people. There should be no children in the household, as unexpected movements will unsettle Hermine and Hanno. Whether the two former stray kittens will develop into cuddly cats is not yet foreseeable. Those who give them a new home must be aware of this and agree to it. This cat needs outdoor access.

About Hermine & Hanno

What life with Hermine & Hanno looks like

Hermine & Hanno is a large young adult mixed breed cat waiting at Tierheim Hamburg in Hamburg.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hermine & Hanno, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hermine & Hanno?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Hamburg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hermine & Hanno on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hermine & Hanno if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Hamburg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hermine & Hanno already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hermine & Hanno isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Hamburg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hermine & Hanno and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
