Herold

Mixed Breed · Male

Herold was found on the street near TSN Street in Košice. We know nothing about his past. It’s possible that he didn’t have much experience with a typical family life or with closer contact with people. What he went through before coming to the shelter, we will probably never know. Upon arrival, he was very frightened and it took several weeks for him to start trusting us. Building a relationship with him was done slowly and patiently, often feeding him from our hands and giving him the time he needed. Now, he’s a dog who recognizes his people and trusts them. Herold is a calm, laid-back dog who doesn’t need to be the center of constant attention. He’s not the kind of dog who will immediately seek out being groomed or touched. Instead, he gives the impression that during his life, he didn’t have many opportunities to experience how nice it can be to have someone close. Despite this, he is already able to form relationships with people he trusts. We believe that in a loving and patient home, he will continue to progress, and perhaps over time, he will discover that grooming, petting, and closeness with a person are among the shortest things in life. He enjoys walks, exploring his surroundings, and activities suited to his pace. He’s not overly active, but he’s also not lazy. He feels best in a calm environment without unnecessary chaos. Inside, he behaves well, doesn’t damage things, and has good hygiene habits, especially during walks. He gets along well with female dogs. He chooses his dog companions based on mutual affection, and he doesn’t like overly active or pushy individuals who don’t respect his space. Manipulation is generally not a problem, but he needs a muzzle for veterinary procedures. New people and new environments still cause him uncertainty, so he needs time to get used to and adapt to them. Herold is looking for a calm and patient home where no one will expect him to suddenly change into a carefree extrovert overnight. He needs people who will respect his nature and give him the time to adjust to his new life at his own pace. Herold would be happiest in a home with indoor access where he could be part of his family’s everyday life. He would also get used to life in an apartment. The option of living in a home with a quality heated shed is also available, but he needs people who will pay attention to him and provide daily contact. We would be very happy for him to finally discover what it’s like to have his own people, to feel acceptance, and to be part of a loving home.

SK·Show original

Má rád prechádzky, skúmanie okolia a aktivity primerané svojmu tempu. Veľmi by sme mu priali, aby konečne spoznal, aké je to mať svojich ľudí, cítiť prijatie a byť súčasťou milujúceho domova.

About Herold

What life with Herold looks like

Herold is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at ÚVP Košice in Slovakia.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇸🇰Adopting from Slovakia

Slovak rescue groups coordinate cross-border transport with European partners. Animals are chipped and vaccinated; sterilization is often included for adults and arranged post-adoption for puppies/kittens.

Frequently asked

Adopting Herold, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Herold?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ÚVP Košice handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Herold on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Herold if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ÚVP Košice will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Herold already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Herold isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ÚVP Košice early rather than rehoming privately; they know Herold and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (SK). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
