Herr Schiller &#8211

Mixed Breed · Male

Mr. Schiller is an abandoned dog of a Tierfreundin who simply gave him away and unfortunately had no possibility to take him in. She asked us for help, so he found his way to us. It is believed that he was not treated particularly well in his past, but this story is not fully substantiated. He is definitely compatible with female dogs, but a socialization with male dogs is currently not recommended. For that, some groundwork is necessary to better control him in critical situations. Trust and a certain amount of respect from him towards the other end of the leash must also be established beforehand. After getting used to his new environment, Schiller showed himself to be a rather explosive firecracker in various situations, provided that the adopter has the appropriate experience and determination. He is approachable, can be impressed, and can also be corrected. We assume that with the right training, he will be able to meet joggers, cyclists, oncoming pedestrians, cars, and even fellow animals in a cultivated manner in the future. Games that match his pace should be avoided for now. There is definitely a lot of work ahead for the adopter, who is not afraid of this task, will not only get a typical cuddly puppy, but also a beautiful blue bear. He is not suitable for beginners and is looking for experienced dog people. Ideally, if children are present, they are dog-savvy and no longer have any small children. Cats and small pets should not be in the household. He is trying to be clean, is athletic, cuddly, and a attentive companion when he is not in charge. He knows the basics, which are still buildable, and his temperament often plays tricks on him, and it goes with him. So far, he has always approached people with joy, especially those he knows. Who wants to guide Schiller through his stormy times and bring out the jewel that we can only imagine?

DE·Show original

About Herr Schiller &#8211

What life with Herr Schiller &#8211 looks like

Herr Schiller &#8211 is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Schkortitz in Grimma.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Herr Schiller &#8211, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Herr Schiller &#8211?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Schkortitz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Herr Schiller &#8211 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Herr Schiller &#8211 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Schkortitz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Herr Schiller &#8211 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Herr Schiller &#8211 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Schkortitz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Herr Schiller &#8211 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
