Herr Weiss

Mixed Breed · Female

Originally, only a second female dog was needed for one of our list mixes in a new home, and when we found her online, a new connection was made with a now-friend animal welfare association in Baden. The chosen one was in a pack and so we promptly added four new arrivals, which originally came from Spain. Since we don't advocate for taking in only cute, small, and sweet, but also want to give a chance to those harder to place, Herr Weiss naturally came along for the take-in. We were fully expecting an elderly dog, of course a pitiful emergency case, who was simply named Herr Weiss due to his fur (and in this case, also his eyes) color. Upon arrival, coolness personified. Certainly, the naming also took into account the previously mentioned features, but no one knew how fitting the name was in its meaning for this dog. Herr Weiss looks much more than anyone who meets him, including us. The pitiful old man is, of course, the boss of the incoming pack and has everything under control. Always and everywhere, and from the moment of his arrival. He never wanders around aimlessly, panic is foreign to him. Sure, one might stumble or not find the entrance right away, but it's all fine, it just starts over. He orientates himself as if he had always been there, is always friendly, and the embodiment of justice. He is never unfair, keeps an overview in every situation, and knows from which direction one comes. He is not completely blind, can perceive shadows, we are convinced he sees everything… We see him in a family, preferably as a second dog and with all the life he has missed. He does not seek pity, a little consideration is enough. Since he so spectacularly does not pity himself, we can imagine any new constellation for Mr. Weiss, he is one of the most adaptable shelter dogs we have ever had. At the moment, he is still in treatment, for serious interest, we are happy to advise… Herr Weiss is pack-friendly, can live with other animals after getting to know them, likes every human, is house-trained, a good co-driver, and a patient roommate—so also suitable for working people… or as a new office worker… Herr Weiss should see more of life, who would like to show it to him?

DE·Show original

About Herr Weiss

What life with Herr Weiss looks like

Herr Weiss is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Schkortitz in Grimma.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Herr Weiss, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Herr Weiss?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Schkortitz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Herr Weiss on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Herr Weiss if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Schkortitz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Herr Weiss already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Herr Weiss isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Schkortitz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Herr Weiss and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
