Herta

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 1 year

adoption requirements adoption process Now adopt this animal! Herta has found her home! Her story: Herta is a delicate, sensitive young female dog who hasn't experienced much security in her life. She was rescued from the public shelter in Zalau and has made great progress since then. In her familiar surroundings, she shows herself to be cheerful and relaxed, but outside she is still very insecure. Strangers and new situations frighten her – previously she would bark as a deterrent, today she wavers between cautious observation and the desire to hide. Currently, Herta lives in a foster home in an apartment where she feels comfortable and has found security. On known walking routes, she walks calmly, but as soon as the route changes, she becomes insecure again. For her, we are therefore searching for a quiet family that has a lot of time for her and helps her with patience and positive reinforcement to learn about the world step by step. A busy, noisy environment would not be ideal for Herta. With her long legs and delicate build, she is an exciting mixed-breed female dog who, despite her size, generally appears more fragile. As she is entering puberty, she will likely test her limits and perhaps temporarily forget things she has learned in the coming months. During this phase, she needs patient people who can provide her with calm, consistent guidance to help her develop into a confident dog. For Herta, we are searching for a loving home that gives her the necessary time to build trust. People with a fine sense and patience will find in her a wonderful companion who will bond closely with her primary caregiver once she feels secure. Herta travels microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas. She possesses an EU pet passport and can be transported after a positive our area. A big thank you goes to Mascha, you gave Herta the chance at a new start with her name! Many thanks to Andreas B.! You support Herta with a monthly sponsorship! As of: 20.04.

Vielen Dank Andreas B.! Du unterstützt Herta mit einer monatlichen Patenschaft! About Herta

What life with Herta looks like

Herta is a medium-sized young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Herta, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Herta?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Herta on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Herta if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Herta already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Herta isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Herta and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
