Heydi

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 6 years

Heydi, born in 2020 and about 50 cm tall, is a friendly, calm and rather shy female dog who bravely holds her own in everyday shelter life. She is one of those dogs who don't run straight up to strangers, but she is curious enough to allow closeness when she is met with calm and respect. When visitor groups come by, Heydi does not step forward on her own – and that is completely understandable. The sudden appearance of a group of complete strangers would make many dogs stay at a distance at first. Despite this caution, however, she behaved very well: she let herself be touched without any signs of fleeing or defensive behavior, and she remained calm and controlled throughout. This shows how much trust is within her, even if she cannot yet show it openly. We are convinced that Heydi is not an anxious dog in the classic sense. Rather, she seems like a female dog who simply never had the chance to learn that people can mean something good. In a loving home – or with a patient foster carer – she will thaw very quickly. You can sense that she wants closeness, and that she is ready to open up as soon as she feels safe. Heydi is one of those quiet souls that are easy to overlook, because she does not push herself into the foreground. But whoever wins her heart gains a gentle, loyal companion who touches her people quietly but deeply. For Heydi we are looking for a sensitive foster home or a loving forever home where she can finally show who she really is. Perhaps she is waiting for exactly you. Heydi is neutered and will be vaccinated, microchipped and placed with a protection contract after a positive pre-adoption check. General note about our animals: our dogs in Romania are visited regularly so that we can reassess their behavior and development again and again. These personal impressions help us a great deal in giving the best possible picture of each individual dog. However, we would like to point out that a dog can show itself differently in a new environment – with new people, new routines and new impressions. This is completely normal and part of every process of change. Many dogs open up even faster in a home and show sides that were not visible at the shelter at all. Our assessments are therefore based on current observations, but they are not a guarantee of every behavior in a new environment. They are meant to provide guidance and show how the dog presents itself at the shelter – and what potential lies within it. We are convinced that with patience, understanding and a loving environment, every dog can find its way and continue to develop positively.

About Heydi

What life with Heydi looks like

Heydi is an adult mixed breed dog waiting at Vierbeiner in Not e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Heydi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Heydi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Vierbeiner in Not e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Heydi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Heydi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Vierbeiner in Not e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Heydi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Heydi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Vierbeiner in Not e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Heydi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
